From victim to survivor to thriver...

Don't miss clinical psychiatrist and author Dr Patricia Peters Martin on morphmom moments radio tonight! With a focus on domestic abuse and violence-Dr. Martin has co-authored two inspirational books dealing with abuse.

Her first book titled “The Other Couch: Discovering Women’s Wisdom in Therapy” is about the lessons the patient teaches the psychologist. It contains inspirational stories of 36 courageous women who “morph” from devastating circumstances in their lives to women of strength and wisdom.

Her second book titled “Liars, Cheats, and Creeps: Leaving the Sociopath Behind” takes the reader into a women’s support group for women suffering from domestic abuse and violence. The reader follows the women through 52 sessions of a support group where they hear the voices and dialog of real women as they morph from victims to survivors to thrivers. The book is a lifeline for women in abusive relationships, written by Dr. Martin and a co-author, Renee Forte, who uses a pen name because she is a member of the support group and a former victim of domestic abuse.

“Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope.”
    -Kofi Annan

    Lisa Holton-President at Classroom,Inc.
    is building that bridge!

After a successful career in publishing –including head of Disney’s Global Children’s Book division,Editor-In-Chief at HarperCollinsPublishers, President of Scholastic Trade and Book Fair division and founder of Fourth Story Media, Lisa made the leap into the nonprofit world five years ago, becoming President of Classroom, Inc. Her organization offers an innovative approach to literacy and learning for adolescents and educators in low-income communities.
Through digital learning games in which students become “the boss,” they are faced with important, real-life decisions and in the process they gain confidence, find motivation and improve reading, writing, and critical thinking skills.
    The effect has been transformative.
