Take a historical building, gut it, and have the vision “to build it and they will come” that is exactly what Annette Dwyer has done with Mondo. She has created a magical space that encourages inspirational women to start their own businesses.
Meet Mary Cummins , part owner and cook extraordinaire for a restaurant called Marigolds. She is soft spoken, unassuming, yet a determined restaurateur, her staff is always smiling and her lunch seating is always full.
Then there is Laura Hanley, potter, her pieces are unique and her jewelry is one of a kind. She is constantly producing new works of art.
Lastly, there is Lisa Reznik, who has started the Film Society of Summit. She shows sophisticated independent films that have not yet been released to the public. She has taken her passion for movies and brought it to her hometown of Summit.
All 4 of these women are creative, talented and went after their dreams. Something about the 3rd floor of Mondo has pulled me into that space also, so add me to the list of Mondo women. The way the light spills into the room with its beautiful brick walls, and warm wood floors is a perfect place to photograph. Can’t wait to use the space on Fridays for the “not a deer in headlights type of photo”. To me a great picture is all about the natural light and the real smiles and laughter of my subjects. I had that connection with all 4 of these women that day and I left with a feeling of “women power”, so nice to have met them all.
